KOMPAN U.S. is looking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient Construction Estimator, with future potential as a Chief Estimator, to join our pre-sales team.

 

The Construction Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, with a focus on technical quantity take-offs, quote preparation, and subcontractor coordination. This role is critical in ensuring competitive and profitable project bids by leveraging knowledge, construction methods, and market pricing.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and scopes of work related to playground equipment, site prep, surfacing, fencing, drainage, and landscaping.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and material estimates using digital tools e.g. RSMeans, AI, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates based on project scope, drawings, and historical data.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and the sales team to align estimates with design intent and constructability.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and scope reviews to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Assist in preparing final bid packages, proposals, and bid clarifications for submission to clients.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, unit pricing, and historical cost records.
  • Assist with risk assessments and scheduling input during preconstruction phases.
  • Oversee detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using industry-standard software and databases.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers; ensure accurate and competitive pricing across all trades.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Sales Reps, ensuring clear communication, timely support, and alignment between project estimates and customer expectations.
  • Perform final reviews of estimates to verify completeness, accuracy, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Develop and refine estimating processes, tools, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support change order pricing, budget updates, and post-bid negotiations as needed.
  • Maintain organized estimate files and documentation for awarded and prospective projects.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and techniques to provide informed estimates.

 

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • 5-10 years of experience in estimating or engineering roles within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, STACK, RSMeans, WinEst, ProEst).
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, codes, and industry practices.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of risk management in preconstruction.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public bid projects (municipal parks, school districts, HUD-funded developments).
  • Familiarity with ADA, ASTM, and CPSI playground compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of common surfacing systems: poured-in-place rubber (PIP), artificial turf, engineered wood fiber (EWF).
  • Comfortable reading civil/site plans and equipment layouts
  • CPE (Certified Professional Estimator) or CCP (Certified Cost Professional) certification.
